Tom Sawyer to me on the outside is a total rebel and miscreant but inside, I believe Tom is really a good person. Sure, he likes to mess around with people and cause trouble with others but Tom also has really good qualities on the inside of him. He's just a young boy who wants to have fun and who can really blame him for that? I think Tom is very funny, super clever and smart and has a soft side too. Like with Becky, he is a very caring and loveable person. Conspicuously Tom hates going school and Sunday school. That shows he's not really into a good education and when he grows up he'll be a person that works with things that wouldn't require him to read and write well. Not showing up at Sunday school kind of shows that he's not really religious. I don't think he really has any motivations really. All the pranks he pull are probably just for kicks and laughs. I don't think he really has a purpose to do it or that he wants anything out of it.
Huckelberry Finn immediatly jumps out as a pariah and bad boy to me right as he was joining into the story. He's the outsider of the town and stands out in a crowd. I think other boys look up to him and wish that they could be as cool as him but none of them actually have the guts to do what Huck does. I think Huck was kind of a misjudged person because his father is an alcholic man. Maybe if others didn't look down on him because of his father Huck could be different. I think Huck and Tom are such good friends because they are so much alike. They love to have fun and pull hilarious pranks on people, therefore, they really don't have any motivations. Huck's personality is also a lot like Tom. He obviously has to be very smart and clever to pull all of his jokes off. But I'm not quite sure if Huck is really a people person. He doesn't show any care really for the world or for anyone else, he's probably not very open to other people and doesn't let them in.
Becky Thatcher to me is a very sweet, innocent girl. She sounds like she comes from a wealthy, well-educated family who has been over protective of her all her life so being engaged to Tom would bring a little more thrill into her life. I imagine Becky as a very happy and friendly person. She's probably nice to everybody. I think Becky's motivation are mainly her family and parents. I think that they're the ones that motivate her to do her best in school and have very high expectations because they sound like they want her to carry on the family's good name. If they found out Becky was engaged to Tom I think they could definitely disapprove. Becky sounds like a religious person to me because her Dad I believe showed up at the church and in those days children would probably be forced to follow their parent's religion. I think Becky really craves someone to love her and enjoys being in love. That's why she was so devastated that she wasn't Tom's first love.
Aunt Polly comes off to me as a strict but loving aunt. I say this because she gets angry with tom at times when he does stupid stuff but she's so loving inside. When Tom ran away she was absolutely devastated because she thought he died. I can tell she's extremely blessed to have him but she doesn't show it in his presence. Aunt Polly is probably loved by everyone in this town, she seems like she would be around for a while now so she would be a respected elderly in the town. I don't think Aunt Polly has any motivations right now. She's just taking life as it comes and doesn't seem to want anything more than she already has.
Mary to me sounds like a fun but very religious girl. It was said that she recited a lot of hymns and stuff from the Bible that she was rewarded with several bibles before. When Tom ran away I could definitely tell that Mary was upset and devastated just as Aunt Polly was and she knew that even though Tom is a naughty boy he still had good things in him. I imagine she could find a good in everybody if told or asked. Mary's biggest motivation is probably God. She lives to honor him and only wishes to please him. God sounds like her life and she's doing a spectacular job if that is what she's aiming towards.
