If there were parents that objected students into reading a particular section in a social studies book I would strongly disagree. I disagree because I don't think it's wrong for students to know what it was like living in the past. The things that happened, the things they said, the things that have made today, today. I don't think reading a social studies book could really influence a child in a bad way. They would just be more educated about it and learn from it. For example, if your child is Christian and the history class is studying the Muslim religion and you don't want your child to be learning that stuff. I think it would be fine because you're not practicing the religion or being converted or anything. Your child is just being educated on the Muslim ways of life and they could learn from the Muslim beliefs to become a better person. I don't see any harm in that. Therefore, I strongly believe you let your child read everything they can from a social history book because they can get so much out of it.
If parents saw ten specific words that they found objectonable and wondered if the english teacher should censor the words out like tv producers bleep out objectonable words I would be sitting on the fence of yes and no. In some cases I would say yes depending on the age of the reader. If there were strong words a nine year old shouldn't be reading the english teacher should definitly get rid of them because we certainly don't want that young child to be influenced about them. I would also say no because some readers are just use to those kind of words. For instance, sixteen year olds hear those words all the time and it wouldn't mean anything to them if it were in a book. Parents might think that they never hear those words and reading them in a book might influence them in a bad way but the truth is they do hear it. Out of a book or not those words do definitly float around in a teenager's vocabulary. Whether they choose to use those words or not would be entirely up to them. But in my opioion, getting rid of certain books would depend on the age of the child.
